replacement FX4 intake?

I'm considering getting an FX4 for a 75 gallon and I was wondering what people were doing for the intakes?

I am planning on replacing the tubing, so I won't be using the weird over-the-rim plastic thingy that Fluval includes with it. My preference is to use a single intake that can accommodate the 1" diameter tube rather than 2 smaller intakes, but I could be talked out of it.

I'm planning a single long spraybar along the back as the outflow, if that matters.

I am using regular stainless steel lily pipes with my fx4 on my 120p tank. I replaced the tubing immediately with 3/4" tubing. I am sure I get reduced flow since its not the full 1" but its a good trade for being able to use a wide variety of lily pipes.
