What size tank?

So I picked up a Top Fin branded tank called the "50 gallon" from Petsmart recently. It measures 48x12x19. A little bit smaller than a standard 55 gallon.

Is this tank actually a 50 gallon though or were they just making it a nice round number? I remember seeing on here awhile back someone had a 45 gallon long tank which was I believe the same dimensions as mine. Or maybe it just depends on the manufacturer? I've seen tanks with the same dimensions on one tank from one company but something different with another one.

All tanks are "rounded off numbers" that just sound better to the advertising dept.
Besides, how high is the water in your tank. Just up to the bottom of the top rim or is it a bit higher or perhaps lower ? So just how are we to determine just how high they fill it ?
In a 10g tank 1/4" don't make much difference. But in a 125g it makes gallons of difference.

Sounds like a 50 gallon tank. I would imagine that your measurements are rounded slightly. If it's exactly 48X12X19 it will hold just over 47 gallons.

The measurements on the front label of the tank actually say "48.5 x12.7 x18.8"

A gallons is 231 cubic inches.
48.5*12.7*18.8 / 231 = 50.1 gallons.

That would put it at 50.1 gallons according to Aqadvisor.
