I only have very basic knowledge of shrimp breeding but if i was to mix different strains of shrimp (red cherry, yellow, blue, rili etc etc) as i understand it the resulting shrimp from these offspring would revert to a somewhat wild/dull/ugly coloratuon.
But would it improve there genes (resistance to disease etc) by creating a larger gene pool? As i understand it shrimp have been heavily inbred to produce these colour strains resulting in a less hardy shrimp (especially crystal shrimp) hence why i wondered if this would result in stronger (genetically) shrimp
Also would there always be muts or could i expect the odd strange coloured individual to pop up throughout the generations?
If i was to do this it would be for my own curiousity and i would not be giving anybof the offspring to others (certainly if indid i would let them know they were 'muts') sorry if these questions sound a little silly i was just curious if it would improve the shrimps resistance to disease by improving there gene pool thanks for reading
Also what about hybridizing with the blue pearls/snowballs i assume the offspring would display hybrid vigour? Ive read conflicting things some say such a hybrid is ugly and infertile others say there more resistant to disease, the odd nice coloured individual pops up now. It also seems to be frowned upon because it causes impuritities in the hobby but as indont plan to sell them it would be ok to experiment right??
