Either way as long as you're patient for it to fill in. 1 at a time will help you spread it further, but if you wait for them to grow a bit, you can trim and plant them back in to fill in the empty spots. Keep at it! [emoji106]

Another advantage of planting the individual stems is that it does not hinder flow as much as planting in clumps. Is this a problem ? Depends on the setup.

 

I've planted these way more times than I should have, lol, so here's my take...

The leaves get larger than I expected, so the second time I planted them, I left enough room for a full plant between each stem. After adding CO2, these really took off and started filling in some of the gaps. The plan was trim and plant between them, but now it's looking like I won't even have to do that, lol.

 

This early on, your ultimate goal is to propagate as much s. repens as possible. You will do this by cutting down the stems when they get tall and replanting them. You we get stems suitable for propagation faster if you give your very first plants more room to spread out and grow. Eventually, when you get a real carpet going and propagation is not a concern, you can start planting closer.

So I should start by separating it all and trimming it down, so I have as many stems as possible?
