It's supposed to be igneous rock, so it should be inert. Regardless of what it truly is composed of, from the many people that have used it, they confirm that it does not alter water chemistry. I too, have not had any change in water params (used it in acidic water and 0 dKH neutral 7 ph water too). Those that report alterations must have some contaminants on the stones in the crevices.
