Anyone have experience with Black Neon Tetras ? Are they as susceptible to Neon Tetra disease as the regular Neons ? Any info is appreciated as I am looking into getting some . TIA

I dont know about neon tetra diseases. I have 12 neon in a 20g tank and they look stunning and awesome. 6 of them are with me for about 8 months and the other 6 are woth me for about 48 hours and they are eating and all.
Black neon tetras are just like any other tetra when talking about habitat. They will enjoy shade areas, leafs and dark substrate with black water. They will feel confortable and the strong light wont let them blind because of all these factors.
Give ypur tank some crew, like shrimps, snails and cory or pleco (they will be nipping larger fosh fins)

I don't think so. As far as I know, Black neon tetras aren't really in the neon tetra family. I believe it's just a name thing since their pattern slightly resembles the neon tetra. So I wouldn't worry about it.
Black neon tetras are in the genus Hyphessobrycon and neons are in the genus Paracheirodon but both are characins in the same family. "Neon tetra disease" is caused by a parasite called Pleistophora hyphessobryconis. While it is commonly found in neon tetras other fish can become infected as well including other tetras, barbs, danios etc. I am not sure it is common enough a problem in other species for it to be something to worry too much about.
Ok , so I appreciate all the info . That is why I post questions here , but as in any forum you have to sift through the info and compare to what you already know or have experienced . I do know that most tetras you buy these days are "tank/farm" raised so all the wild habitat conditions don't apply . I keep some different species of tetras and they do great in my tanks with community tank perimeters . As far as the disease goes , I think you guys have reassured me on getting and keeping some Black Neons . Thanks to all .
I've had them in my setup for around a year and they have been rock solid. Gorgeousl fish once they color up.
