So I got a betta fry "baby betta" from Petco about two weeks ago. Right now it is in a 2 gallon plastic tank with no filter. It hasn't grown as far as I can tell. I was totally against Petco selling them, especially when I saw them. They all looked very sad and I'll. Since I've put him/her (unsexable) into its new home it has become very active and lively. It eats 2 times per day. I feed it betta bites, small bits of frozen blood worms, sometimes freeze dried blood worms, and flakes too. I do about a 25% water change each day and a full every three. Why isn't it growing?

I bought one of these about two years ago and it took what felt like MONTHS before it started to grow, but eventually it did and ultimately grew out without any problems.

I suspect they are highly stressed and their growth somewhat stunted as a result of being packaged/sold the way they are... so it takes them a little while to recover from that and get going again. As long as it's eating I wouldn't worry too much.

Petco is actually the best place around me to find decently healthy livestock it seems. Everywhere else basically sucks. The one near me takes really good care of their fish, well the best I have ever seen a chain store do at least. But they have so many bettas so it seems some get over looked. Especially these little guys. They definitely are selling juveniles. Here is mine.

I picked a very sad looking one and my girlfriend picked one that was on its side and another that had some sort of tail issue. All three are actually doing great and seem really healthy since they have found new homes with us.

I am thinking about making a new thread to document their growth and lives. How do you change thread titles? I might just change this one and edit the first post a bit. Sorry I am still a newb around here XD

BTW sarahspins do you have any pictures of yours before and after growth? I am nervous to see mine change colors. It is a gorgeous green. It also looks like it might be a crowntail which would be awesome.

Have to agree. If you have all three in the tank and all were males (as most expect), they would be in shreds by now.

This particular store may have been sent a ton of females instead of males which may give the appearance of being juvenile males.
