I'm looking to get ahold of some Zebra plecos (L46) for the purpose of breeding them. Does anyone have any info or experience with them. I would like osme advice from fellow members before starting this project. Im really nervous to try getting some because they cost so much and I dont have alot of money to begin with. And also does anyone know where to possibly get some? Aquabid has them for 150 :(

http://www.zebrapleco.com/ looks like a good source of info
And that price is about normal. I wouldn't expect any amazing deals on them.
unless you have an in with a whoelsaler, thats about what your going to have to pay for them.
If you've never bred plecos, you might want to start with a less expensive number. It's very easy to get a hold of proven spawning bristle nose pairs, and they spawn readily. They aren't nearly as pretty, but they are a good place to start.

100% agree. with the dam going up these will soon be wiped from the wild. at that time the prices are going to jump back up. these need to get into the hand of people who can and will breed them. though if you havent rasied plecos before i think it is better to wait and get some experience with some of the others 1st.
They really need to be in the tanks of successful knowledgeable pleco breeders.
A bunch of the Lxxx zebras are not micro-organism grazers.
They require animal proteins and/or a really varied diet which can get to be tedious and expensive.

I want some too, but I had to be honest with myself and admit I'm not ready for them.

I'm sure no one wants to hear as much discouragement as you're getting but the fish, the hobby, and ultimately you, would be better off if you find some to visit and supporting the breeders efforts with some cash.

If you're set on trying an expensive pleco, check out the L018. Should be around $20.00 each as they are being successfully tank raised and there is still a ready market for fry.
I've bred other plecos and some acaras, Geos, mostly SA stuff. I've just wanted Zebra's for a long time, I might have a way to get them cheap i do know a few wholesalers. I just want to also breed them to make some extra cash and sell them to the store i work at :p Their price going up is what is making me want to get them now. They are actually pretty plentiful if your looking for tank bred specimens. I dont know if I'll plan to breed them right away but i know i want to start setting everything up for it. Was going to breed my L128 but she just passed when my filter decided it doesnt like to flow anymore. Im sad but ive also had her for about 3 years and she was already grown to about 6 inches before i got her :/ L18's are okay but i dont like the size and they are common.
