Yeah!!! Free drop checker from LFS - is it any good?

I don't know if it's any good but it's free:). Has anyone used the dupla CO2 drop checker? At least I think it's a drop checker - it sticks to the tank and uses a reagent. I won't be crushed if you say it's junk.

It wont hurt to at least try. Im pretty sure a drop checker is is jut a vessel for your reagent, althouth some may provide a slight bit more wate to air surface area thet may speed up color change in the reagent.

If you like the way it looks, nothing beats free!!!
I put it in. It seems to be working - only showing blue green interestingly. I'm using 2.5 bps.
how long has it been since you put it in
It's been about 2 hours now. The color hasn't changed much, even though I upped it to 5 bps (did this 45 min ago). My PH kit shows a light yellow green (6.4 or 6.2). The drop checker is bluish green though. I don't get it.
i dont see how a checker wouldn't work if its constructed with the same principles, i try to keep mine half the volume air, other half water, this way i can tell if theres a leak of any sort.
Try making your own regeant, im sure you can get a decent recipe here for it.

Yeah. I'm just using tank water now. I will make my own with baking soda and distilled water. But I still don't understand why it's not in the green.
I just saw that you have used tap water  this is even worse than using your aquarium water. :icon_roll
I meant tank water - not tap water. Sorry.
How many drops of API blue stuff did you add the the standard?
My drop checker is made by dupla. It called for 1 ml aquarium water plus two drops of their reagent. It said it would give an accurate reading in 10 minutes. The reagent is orange until you add it to water - I don't know what this means a/b what chemical it is.

Sounds like the red sea drop checker I had. I didn't like it and ended up getting one from blacksunshine. Not to mention his comes with a true solution.

find blacksunshine in the swap n shop and get some of his 4dkh reagent, if you dont then there is no reason to even have a drop checker and you could be a very big danger to your fish.

turn your co2 back to 2.5 bps untill you get some.

Agreed.
OK. I don't want to hurt the fish. I PM'd blacksunshine. Do you think I should buy a different drop checker too? Just out of curiosity, what was ineffective about the Red Sea one?
I didn't like how the cap fit onto the drop checker itself. It was difficult making sure it was seated correctly and sealed. I also question how accurate it was because they also instruct you to use aquarium water.

If you like the drop checker you have all you need is the 4dkh fluid from blacksunshine. That stuff works great.:D

Oh, also ask him if he can send you one of his eye droppers. They make it really easy to change the fluid in the dc.
