I could not believe all the fish, plants, and equipment they had there. I put $50 a side and walked out $150 in the hole my wife put nothing back for her because she does not aquariums and fish but she walked out $50 in the hole. She bought a 5.5 and all the equipment to set it up and some guppies. I got to set it up and planted it. She told me she love guppies and wants to go back to the swap meet again. I think she has now got the bug. :hihi:

I found and bought a lot of crypts too.

It was heaven in a room.

Thanks eds for post the link if it was not for you i would have never have even known about it. Also thanks for the great look plants. You rock man.:proud:

Yeah - I rock!

I also was surprised at the number of cheap tanks available. Good thing I was able to restrain myself.

You saw that they're having another one in April, didn't you?

How about those guys who wanted $85 for that crypt? The ones with the little pieces of plant manterial pressed flat in the bags? I can't imagine who would buy their stuff, but someone must as they are at every swap.

Yeah i bought my crypts from the guy right next to them. To our left. They had crupt affinis which i have found out is hard to find now. I paid $3 for four of them.:icon_smil
Where was this Swap? Are they going to have another?

Kim

Everything you need to know is here.

The older guy with the funky beard?
I got some affinis from him last swap. Didn't know you wanted some. But, as you observe, he has excellent plants at excellent prices. Good guy - really knows his crypts. Over the past several swaps I think I've bought some of pretty much everything he has to sell.

Don't forget everyone - the general consensus is that I rock!
Thanks, I am new at this. It says that the next one is in April, is there anything else that is going on? I think I have the bug,

Ed,

Do you remember when I went to the swap meet, and posted here that a guy had HC for sale there and it was a 1"x1" for 20. Well those are the guys that have their plants pressed flat in those cellophane like baggies. LOL.. they had clado labeled as fuzzy moss and wanted $15 for it.

I did not know i wanted it either.:hihi: it was one i did not have so i just bought it. I happen to be very found of both crypt's and moss. I would love to get my hand on as many of them as i can. But crypt's are my big thing.

Yes in my book you rock and are the very nice person to. That is not seen to often lately.
TO be honest i was displeased with all of the rude people there pushing and shoving for fish. its like it use to be at the old place. i sent a email to Rick about it.

i will go to the April swap as well just to see and I'm sure there will be less people at that one. when they have such a large gap in between swaps like that is the cause for such a huge outcome of buyers and sellers. if it were in a larger place it wouldn't be half as bad.

Or half as good?
I have been going to GCCA events for many years. and when it is packed with people like it was IMO it sucks! They did a great Job with the ACA as the spread it out and not pack everyone and everything in 1 room. I saw a lot of people walk in and walk right back out due to the overwhelming amount of people.

Reason being there are not as many swaps this year is because the Hotel its held at is being remodeled. and is why the classic location is yet to be determined.
I live in Springfield. Would it be worth the trip for me?
I am thinking about getting a shell dweller tank going...
Hi

If it's like it was this last time then i would say it would be well worth the trip. But I'm not sure if there will be as many vendors this time since it will only have been 2 months since the last one.

It should still be a good turnout

You'll really have to make that decision for yourself. By "shell dwellers" do you mean cichlids? Because I don't know anything about them, other than to note that there seem to be quite a few offered at these swaps. But you'd be talking about - what - 3 hour's drive each way? Which will be a few bucks' gas in addition to your time.

I know there is a decent shop in Champaign, which is quite closer to you. Tho the prices are much higher, all things considered they might even out.

And a lot of the guys who sell at the swaps would probably be willing to ship you stuff. You might want to check out the CAGA website to see if you can get any contact info.

On the other hand, if you could combine attending the swap with a visit to the area - maybe to see friends, or see a show, it would definitely be a good addition.

I'd just be a little troubled if you drove all this way for the swap to be disappointed.

Thanks for your input. Yes cichlids. One factor to consider any time I come to Chicago is that I get to eat the best pizza in the world so any trip to Chicago is a winner in a sense. Giordano's stuffed or Gino's East YUMMY!! I might make a trip up just for fun. I might try to get one of my fish fiend friends to ride along and split gas.
In Champaign are you refering to SailFin?
Yeah - Saifin. I was only there once, but they seemed to have good selections of fish (albeit ont he pricey side). But, like I said, I usually don't even look at cichlids - just not my thing.

If you and a buddy are up for a road trip, what the heck. I'm sure you'll have fun. And I was really thrilled the first swap I went to. I imagine I may be becoming a mite jaded after having attended several.

And there are lots of folk with all kinds of cichlids for all kinds of prices.

Don't know if I'll be there, but you'd probably be able to get some folks to bring some trimmings for you.

Hmm - maybe I'll order Giordano's tonight. I'll pick it up, since it is only a mile or so from my home!
