i have a interpet 60l fishbox tank and it requires a edison screw in bulb - my current bulb still works as it is only a few month old, but all the plants i get are turning brown, i can get the interpet replacement bulbs but there only 15watt.

would these bulbs work instead as there a higher wattage? would it help at all? or would they be worse because they are not actually made for aquariums?

I think they should be fine as long as they don't get too much moisture on them.

hi, the guy at the pet store said they would be no good, as they would in actual fact be weaker, than the 15watt tank bulb, is this true - i dont see how it could be, unless he thinks im talking about a standard energy saving bulb.. or he just wants to make some pennies off me.

the tank bulb is compact florescent and so are the ones i found

both the bulbs i found are daylight with color temp at around 6400 and a CRI above 85

but they are double the watts of the supplied tank bulb

in theory the new bulbs should be better yes?


i just hope they will fit under the water proof plastic covers

He's wrong. As long as the ACTUAL wattage is higher, you're fine. When you use the "comparable" wattage like X watts equals X watts of standard incandescent, then you get messy.

As long as actual consumption is 30 watts, then yes, it would be double the other. You get a considerable amount of light loss due to restrike with these type of bulbs, but that isn't relevant as you were getting that with the original bulb.
