As far as red plants that stick to driftwood I think you are a bit out of luck unless you can get a rubin sword to successfully attach, ive seen a few people do it. Red foreground plants are much more readily available. Go for the altelanthera reinckii "dwarf" or "mini" species.
Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I'll take a look at everything and see what might work.
I wonder if putting some substrate into a "valley" part of some flat driftwood might entice the roots to grow towards the crevasses in the wood.
