Word of warning about raising lily pipe

So I was told it's best to raise the like pipe every night for aeration. Be careful when moving it. I guess it got so accustomed to moving it that i stopped worrying and got careless.

I don't know what happened last night, or how i did it, but I knicked the rim of my 60-P and chipped it. Tiny chip but it really bothers me.... I'm considering buying a new tab to replace it but I've had the 60-p less than a month so it's hard to justify. Somehow the lily pipe was totally unharmed... How that happened is beyond me!

Luckily i can hide the chip with the lily pipe it's self. Be careful!

isnt it amazing how something so trivial can really make you irritate the heck right out of yourself....
Well a little oyster chip came out of the side, too. I can still totally hide it with tye pipe but I KNOW it's there!

I'm like that with apple products, too,

Here are some pics of the damage...

Does anyone know how I can fix this or hide it? I am absolutely desgusted that this happened. I am amazed that the cheap, knock-off lily pipe was totally unharmed but the cube garden was chipped.

It's only like a month old, too...

Any ideas on how I can try to hide this or fill it in? Will this affect the integrity of the rest of the pane and make it weaker?

I don't know if I should save up and buy another tank, or if this is fixable. I don't have the chip that came out. I don't think I can afford another 60-P, and unfortunately even if I did get another one, this one isn't worth anything as far as resell value goes.

Makes me sick.

Nope you have nothing to worry about. if it was a spiderweb that would be different. I can show you a huge chunk out of my 125g if it'll make you feel better (over an inch tall and about 1/4 inch deep at the chunk). no worries about integrity with that style chip, especially that small.

if you had the chip it would be a really easy fix. without it... not really sure what you can do. you could call a glass repair company but it would probably cost more than its worth to repair. hopefully someone has some better advice for you.
It looks like a minor chip. The tank should be fine.

Can you not slide the lily pipe over by an inch to cover it up?
I can, I just moved it for the picture ; P

It is still visible because the pipe is clear..,, it just really pisses me off. This was an expensive lesson to learn. I'm one of those people that wipes the finger prints off of their touch screen devices, so I'm sort of anal about things like this....

I had to take a couple Valium when this happened. I freaked.
that really sucks lol
just a though but i wouldnt move my lilly pipes up at night for aeration
never had proplem with lack of o2 plus big hassel
I only did it because Amano recommends it, and it was a hassle.

Maybe that's how he keeps making money? Lol jk.
Duck tape...it fixes everything
GREAT IDEA! I'm sure everyone who has an expensive ADA tank wants a scuzzy piece of duct tape hanging off it...
Maybe those guys who fix windshield chips could fix it? Anybody know what material they use to fill the hole?

My 2 cents . . . if you have to raise lilly pipes each night then there is something wrong. I want all the systems on my tank to be automatic.
i chipped my 60-H in just about the same spot. I'm going to sell it for $75.

I also wouldn't worry about raising lilly pipes for aeration. I think it's a waste of time. All of my tanks were heavy CO2 and I never suffocated a single shrimp overnight.
Yeah.... if I had never listened to the recommendation I wouldn't have chipped my tank.

It really pisses me off... this tank is a month old. I polished the glass daily lol, and this happens.

I filled in the chip with silicone and smoothed it over with a razor. It got rid of the glare the chip made but now there's a thin layer of silicone in my glass. It makes me feel as if the chip is safer from further damage... whether or not that's true I don't know.

I was told that aerating the aquarium was good for the overall ecosystem, bacteria, etc. Really it's MY fault for not being more careful. I don't even know how it happened... it is all a blur.
My tank survived moving and everything associated with it. I had just cleaned the tank a couple of weeks ago and set it in a place it wouldn't be moved again for awhile. I placed the lid inside of it and somehow nicked the glass right in the same spot with the lid. I feel your pain. I think I'm just going to sell mine and get a new one.
