That's 150w Current USA Metal halide Pendant. It sure would with pressurized co2 and a well planted tank. be careful with your light duration to start so you don't end up with a huge algae bloom

The major advantages to hanging the fixture are:
It lets you adjust the light intensity easily by raising or lowering the fixture.
A raised fixture gives better uniformity of intensity throughout the tank.
You have easy access to the tank so you can easily reach in to pick up dead leaves, pinch off too long stem plants, "fluff" the plants, etc., keeping you intimately involved with tank maintenance.

yes... you can manage algae issues better with T5's. I had some issues when I first switched to using MH... but nothing that got out of control.
