Well i know that the fish wont eat adults (i think) but will they eat the babies fast enough that a colony wont grow? (i want a colony) I have a 55 g tank which is probably considered a little less then moderately planted.

6 x Black Skirt Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi)
4 x Peppered Cory (Corydoras paleatus)
5 x Zebra Danio (Danio rerio)
3 x Oto (Otocinclus vittatus)
1 x Harlequin Rasbora (Trigonostigma heteromorpha)

if it can fit it in its mouth it will eat it. they might survive if you have a large colony and a heavily planted tank. if the rcs are big enough they might not mess with them, but i doubt it, and they will definately eat all the babies they can find. zebra danios will definately eat them.
so if i were to add like 20 rcs they would be all eaten? :/
depends on how big they are. how heavily planted the tank is. how hungry your fish are.
say they will be between 1/8" and 1", though most will be 1/4" to 3/4" and that the other fish are feed once a day with a moderately planted tank.
will any survive

and is there anyway for me to actually get a population going in a tank like that?

Thanks for all the help btw
its tough. i dont want to say yes because then if they all disappear on you, you'll be walking around telling everyone how much of a jerk that guy tim is.

it is possible. but the odds are kinda slim i think

lolz i wouldnt think you were a jerk. i realize the risks. Maybe ill actually take pictures sometime to see if people think i have enough hiding spots for them.

Thanks for all the help :D
Try buying a few of the smallest ghost shrimps possible, just to see if they have any interest in attacking shrimp.
no problem. did you already buy the rcs to try it?
no i was just thinking about getting some cause they are cheapish and i thought it would be cool to have a population of shrimp. Plus some of the babies would be a good variety for the fishes diets.
I put 20 or so RCS into 30 gal a moderately planted tank with cardinals, penguin tetras, rumminoses, and chocolate gouramies. All disappeared.
They'll get eaten. There is no nice way to say it. You seem to want to not believe this fact, so feel free to spend your money and come back and say your shrimp got eaten.

as long as you dont say that tim is a jerk!

thanks for being so blunt :p whenever someone says probably not but maybe i try to find a way to make that yes. I'll just not get any. Thanks for your time guys and for answering my nooby questions :p
I seen this post and have to tell you my story.. obviously my stocking is different.. but here goes..

I DESPERATELY... wanted Cherry shrimp in my 55 gal planted. I have a tank set up for just cherry shrimp, and I was going to take some from there and throw them in my 55 gallon, so it wasn't going to cost me anything... so I did it

In it I have harlequin rasboras, kuhli loaches, ottos, rainbows, cardinals, german blue rams, BNs, and red honey gouramis, oh and clown loaches.

So I throw in some cherry shrimp (the absolutely biggest females I could find)... immediately they run for cover in the rock crevices, in the driftwood, in the plants. poof. gone.

No one tried to eat them as far as I know, and they are still there.. but they never come out. Every once and awhile I will see one hitching a ride on a leaf or it's feelers (whatever!) sticking out of the wood, but really... It's not that exciting. I have to get down and look for them. It's much more fun to watch them in their own tank. Half the reason I know there is still probably all 6 in there is I see their little molts floating on top of the tank.

I have a small planted set up with livebearers and the cherry shrimp are much more active... The livebearers probably eat some of the babies but leave the adults alone, and some of the babies.
