So i'll be starting a new tank. I have some media in a friends tank now to help quicken the cycle. :fish:

The trouble with that is he has some BBA algae. At least i think it's BBA.

Will i be seeding my new tank with my friends tank algae?

If so, it may not be worth it! :icon_eek:

You should not have a problem.

Some types of algae can be avoided by simply never introducing them to your tank. And of these, many will grow in almost any tank conditions favorable to plant growth, so avoiding introduction is prudent. Cladophora is a notable example.

But others are everywhere, and trying to keep them out of your tank is basically an exercise in futility. However, if conditions in the tank don't favor these algae, they won't grow. And BBA is on this list.

So in short, don't worry about inadvertently seeding your tank with BBA. It will be seeded with it, one way or another, without fail. Focus on maintaining good tank conditions instead.

Thank you both for your comments. I just wanted know a bit more how BBA and even other algae "move about".

I certainly will maintain consistent quality water conditions. Glad to hear it.
