I just got the game. I know it's for kids, but it's so addictive.

I've been trying to build a giant marine park, but I keep going bankrupt--so hard to get the cash coming in.

Are there any zoo tycoon 'tycoon's here that can give advice?

I can't believe I'm playing it.

wow that brings back some memories.
I used to play transport tycoon. I am not sure if you can win the game or what? I ended up owning all of my competition, several million in income and was not aloud to build anymore. Is that considered winning?

Tycoon games are fun.

i have this game its very addictive and can get hard and very time intensive, there are cheats online where you can get more money and other things. the game is fun and not only for kids i bought it for my wife but i ended up playing it more. i have all three zoo, marine, and dinosaur

Yay finally my username has a point to make

The only hint I have is to make 1 or two animals before the guests start coming in, then once the guests come in, make buildings that get you profit. Then you can build more animals and raise the admission price.

I LOVE Zoo Tycoon. I have the complete pack and a couple of other versions.

Ooh alright.

Right now I'm stuck on a rut.

I'm at a constant -$10,000, and near the end of every month, I get so close back to positive, but fees drop me back to -$10000.

1 cotton candy stand is making like $20000 charging $6 for one ball of cotton candy lol.

I have played it never got very good at it. My zoo's just don't do well and people complain to much. lol

Are these games like Sim City? I heard Railroad Tycoon was a pretty good game. I've never played any of the tycoons. Are there any that are geared more for adults (not because they're naughty

but because they involve realistic scenarios and real world economics).

Well there is Jail Tycoon....rated T for Teen (or maybe M for Mature) because of Jail Riots:tongue:

I currently have Zoo Tycoon 2. I started off with $500,000, worked my way down to about $280,000, and now I'm up to approx. $350,000

Ive always wanted to play Zoo Tycoon but have never got around to buying it, but I have played the Roller Coaster Tycoon series and I really like 'em.

It's basically the same design. Except replace roller coasters with land and marine animals--so a lot more painstaking to get it right. For the marine animals, you have to add the proper terrain, rocks, coral, vegetation, water depth, tank size to get it right.

I have the complete Zoo Tycoon 2--with Dino Tycoon and Marine Tycoon.

Pretty awesome game, though kind of tedious. I put a dinosaur egg in a chain-link fence, then it hatched, broke free and started eating people. I tried to put a giraffe with 2 lions, and it got killed instantly.

I think my problem is expanding too fast.

I play Plant Tycoon!

It's simple and stupid, and it's probably for kids. But I'm addicted. I've got all six of my magic plants now and all of the bugs collected! Gees, I guess I really am a geek.:redface:

Oooh man don't get me started with Rollercoaster Tycoon. That was the greatest computer game ever. I also played the first Zoo Tycoon and that was tons of fun. Don't remember how well I did. I do remember how I would start off with a pair of lions then I'd end up getting a whole colony. Not a pride of lions, a colony lol. I always loved mixing animals like Zebras and those... deer-like thingies lol.

Zoo tycoon is for kids?
I love Zoo Tycoon and Rollercoaster tycoon. The only problem is that I get so involved in building my zoo/park that I don't do anything else all day.

You will want to use the money cheat or it is nearly impossible to win.
Just be sure to do the money cheat before you build anything because walls, fences and such will break down fast.

Zoo Tycoon Cheats
Platform: PC

Zoo Tycoon Cheat: Extra Animals
Rename exibits for the following animals:

For A Unicorn, Rename Exibit To Xanadu.
For A Triceratops, Rename Exibit To Cretaceous Corral.

Zoo Tycoon Cheats: Name-Calling
Name your guests with the following names to yield different effects:

Mr. Orange, Mr. White, Mr. Blonde, Mr. Brown, Mr. Pink, or Mr. Blue : guest clothes and buildings will change to that color.

This is a game that everyone around me known me for. I always created zoo's and knew how to make "reserves" and whatnot. Here are some tips:

Guest Happiness:
*Flower patches and foliage is great to raise up. Pacific Dogwood, Japanese Maple, Oak, and Paper Birch Tree's are absolutely grea or scenery use.
*Multiple Species exhibits raise guest happiness. The easiest would be Zebra and Thompsons Gazelle. For a 10x10 exhibit it is 95 squares Savannah and 5 freshwater. Adjust the measurements due to size.
*To make your guest go farther into the zoo put more rarer animals in the back and have benches, restraunts, rides, and decorations on the way. Rare Animals include the giant panda, Yeti, Bigfoot, African Elephant, Asian Black Bear.
*Information Signs are great.
*Decorate like mad at the zoo entrance. Include a zoo map, benches, gift shop, and either restraunt or food court. Fountains are very useful here, as guest leave and enter their happiness is raised.
*Tour Guides are great use as well for guest.

Money making tips:
*Compost buildings pay $50 for each regular animal poo and $100 for Dinosaur poo. Make sure hidden from guest view. Hiding it behind trees or flowers does the trick.
*Gift shops in front are great so they buy as they leave or enter.
*Restraunts are better as they hold more people meaning more money. They also eliminate the need for maintnence men around the zoo for trash cleanup.

My girlfriend LOVES that game. I originally had her hooked on ZT1, but then one day I procured ZT2 for her, and it's like World of Warcraft to her now! I have to pull the plug sometimes to get some lovin' outta her! (j/k, baby, if you're reading this)

And I actually don't see it as a kid's game, from watching her play. It's pretty involved, and seems to require a lot of fore-planning and strategy. Kinda reminds me of the level of participation of sim games like Freelancer (my fave!).

Zoo Tycoon, now thats a great game... I've made a zoo with every animal at 100% happiness once. (all in game animals)

Zoo Tycoon is rubbish IMO don't bother with it go to the classic zoo tycoon.

OK, you guys convinced me to get it. Last night I had to run up to Staples for a new fan for my PC and just HAPPENED to see Zoo Tycoon 1 for ten bucks, so I grabbed it. I love it! I am having a little trouble staying in the black financially, but I had that same problem with Roller Coaster Tycoon way back when I first started, so I suppose I will figure it out soon. Thanks guys!
