Hi,

My nano is 1,5 months old. Everything is going otherwise fine, but this white stuff covers soft plastic, rubber parts and silicone in the water. It doesn't spread to hard plastic parts or glass. It also covers the new soft parts (like a new hose) introduced to tank pretty fast.

It is not a problem, at least not yet, in any other visible way.

Have you any idea what is it? It looks and feels more like bacteria mass or fungus than mineral residues from the water. Water is also soft here (GH 4 dH, KH 2 dH).

Picture hopefully helps to figure it out.

I was about to post up the identical question. I see it almost exclusively on soft rubber suction cups that support things like powerheads and sponge filters. I was never really concerned about since it seems to be so specific to soft black rubber, but I was doing water changes yesterday and took note of one a suction cup that looked mysteriously "white". It didn't take much for the "stuff to rub off, but it had me scratching my head a bit as to what it could be. So I'm along for the ride on this one.
