Which size the xp3 or xp4

896 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  pittiepride
I have a 45 g corner bowfront that I want to upgrade the filter on and have come across a good deal on the xp's, for $169 and $189 respectively. I am not sure which size will be needed. The xp4 is rated for a huge tank...but because of the shape of the corner tank it might be beneificial to move more water.

The tank will be stocked with lots of small fish, white clouds and zebra danios and shrimp eventually.

Any advice or opinions?

XP3 is more than enough.

only get XP4 if you plan
on adding extra in-line
items like heat and UV.
on the XP# the flow rate
is adjustable at the outlet.

remember to budget for media
since the XP# only come with
mechanical foam filters, nothing
biological, so figure another $40cd
on bioballs, porous media, & Purigen.

Not sure where you are picing these out but Big Al's has the XP3 for $89.99. You can almost purchase 2 for the price of the XP4!
Definitely check out Big Als and Dr Foster and Smith, they also come with media (two sizes foam plus ceramic noodles for bio). Got my XP3 for $100 shipped.

I think Kara is in Canada...

I'd say even if you put CO2, heater and such inline, a XP3 will be more than sufficient.
Doesnt matter...i am in canada and the stores will match the online prices.

Woops.. Didn't think about that... Good luck on the price match :)
Thanks. yes i'm in canada. I think I will go with the XP3. Will be checking around though too. Big als was still pretty pricey.
