So besides my Iwagumi setup I also have a barebottom (the irony of posting this in a planted forum) 40 gallon Discus pair tank that is 2 feet deep. I'm looking to replace my existing Marineland LED that has broken down after three months.

Considering the Monster Ray, Planted Plus / 24/7, and Ray 2, which of these light bars will best fit a 12 in deep tank? I was set to buy the Monster Ray, although I recently accumulated a few issues:
- I'm only getting one light bar - is it bright enough to light up the whole tank sufficiently?
- A 30" Monster Ray is about the same price as a Ray 2 30" or Planted+ 30", would I be better off with one of those even if there aren't any plants?
- Is color more important than brightness when it comes to showing a fish?

Thanks,
Paul

I use a planted+ on my 45 gallon, and it's 24" tall.plenty of light with no co2,I keep floaters and use a siesta to keep the algae down.

it's plenty bright for showing, you can really see all the colors on my angelfish.

kind of.. Spread and spectrum is important.
Certain LED's favor certain colors, and optics/design spread or concentrate the overall brightness.
What are the complete dimensions of the tank LWH?

Many of our discus tank customers like this new spectrum we recently created, as it is very bright and highlights the warmer colors in a tank. It really makes the orange/red colors pop.
