I've always heard that java moss is not a good moss to use as a wall. It grows too thin and uneven. I've got a mixture of taiwan and christmas moss in my wall. I would have to say put the java moss on the driftwood. As it grows, you may want to fold the new parts over and re-tie them down so that it gets a fuller look to it, though.
