Hi everyone,

Just set up my tank with a substrate consisting of a very thin layer of boiled and baked worm castings mixed with an equal part sand a little red clay. Also a very light sprinkle of dolomite, KCL, and osmocote plus on the glass beforehand. Everything is capped with black diamond blasting sand.

My question is when should I start dosing the water column? I already have the standard EI ferts so can start anytime.

Also, should I start at something like half EI or just go full bore right off the bat?

When your plants stop growing or start to grow weird or slow. Or if you get nutrient related algae like green spot algae. Most people start fertilizing right away because plants take up nutrients from the soil and the water. Just keep in mind that you don’t over fertilize
