When do you change the filters in your Ro system?

I have had mine nearly 9 months and am still running the OE filters. It has always put out 0ppm water but over the last month or two it has slowly crept up to 4-5ppm. I can visibly see the first filter getting darker in color, from white to it now being kinda tan colored. I have the replacements here for when its time.

I have a TDS meter obviously but what is the indicator to you that its time to change the filters?

My reject/product ratio changes as the membrane starts to clog up.

Good info. I actually have the waste line kind of hidden and going to the drain near my AC/heater in the basement so unfortunately I wouldn't even know what normal is.

I also purchased an inline pressure gauge when I got the filters but haven't installed it. Maybe there is a certian pressure that indicates when filter changes are in order?
I have a booster pump following my prefilter stages before the membrane. Also installed is a membrane flush bypass line and valve arrangement. If you placed two gauges inline one raw water (prefilter) and the second after your particle prefilters (before the membrane) along with a flush kit when flushing the membrane in free flow bypassing the membrane you could see what the pressure drop is between supply and filter stage discharge.
HTH, hope it makes sense.

When the TDS goes up past 0.

The rep from bulk reef supply sad to install the gauge before the membrane.

Yeah but that seem kind wasteful to me.

I can understand that, but how does a single gauge help? What’s your supply pressure? I'm on a well pump and the pressure switch ranges from a low (on) 45psi to a high (off) 65psi supplying the whole house pressure tank. Even on a central water system the pressure supplied is not a static value.
As your perfilters become clogged back pressure is created, inlet/out readings allow you to see that drop.
When the pressure drops then I would know the filters are getting clogged. It's not perfect but at least it would give some one a frame of reference.
You would see a very small differential with new filter elements and larger one when they become blocked so yeah it would be a reference.
