I was about to purchase a new filter for my 30 gallon goldfish tank, and i dont have alot of money to grab a canister filter (I wish) So what do you guys think?
An AquaClear 70 HOB would be a good filter for your 30 gal goldfish tank.
I use AC's exclusively for their efficiency, ease of cleaning, and ready ability to interchange/replace various types of media.
Same opinion here. I have had 2 Aquaclear's, both had never failed and work extremely well for the price point. No need to buy their media too, you can fit filter floss/quilt batting in the basket easily.
I have a AC 110 that was used for 10 years before I got it. It had a broken piece, I glued that back on then turned it on and it had more power then any other filter the same size right out of the box! Not to mention I love having the giant sponge in a filter. It makes regular carbon filters quiver. Definitely AC filters.
I am the odd ball. I prefer my Marineland pump over the AC. Of course, I only have one AC pump and I haven't used if for long. I may try it again for my planted tank. lol
Aquaclears... the media basket is just one big open area- like a canister- you can put whatever you want in it and don't have to get stuck using expensive cartridges or the like when it comes time to change your media. I have always used them whenever I have gone HOB.
