Alright, What exactly would a step up be??? So i can do the basics, Amazon Swords, Ludwigia Repens, Anubius Nana, Wisteria and Java Ferns, what would be the next step up? im thinking other types of harder to find ludwigias and or some carpeting plants, i cant get Dwarf hairgrass to root and am not willing to try again, it was just a mess, but what next? Im upgrading lights soon from low to high lighting and doing DIY co2. Im not dosing anything currently, like Ferts, im dirted and am willing to try dosing ferts if thats what it takes, but i want a step up.

I suggest you go medium light instead of high light. With diy co2 you will be having an uphill battle with algae with high light. For plants I would look at stem plants that you like.

+1 for medium, not sure if you've ever done highlight before but the dosing and diy co2 gets slightly out of control if it's your first time. If you're looking for a carpet, from my own experience, dhg was the easiest thing i got to root when it came to carpets. Glosso and hc is a pita to root since it's recommended that you plant individual stems, and their roots are a lot smaller compare to hairgrass, the only time i did it was in an emerse setup to prevent frustration and hassle. Medium light is also a little more forgiving, i had a highlight setup and everything was wonderful but once i got a little lazy and had to move 7 times within the year my entire tank was covered in algae, i am now in the process of breaking it down to restart since it basically destroyed the tank.

How about crypts or Blyxa for medium sized plants you haven't worked with yet?

Lots of tall stems you could try. Rotala rotundifolia is supposed to be easy.

How about Staurogyne repens or Marsilea for low growing plants? Marsilea is likelier to grow in a tall tank with lots of other plants shading the stand.

How about mossing wood or a rock and trimming to practice some plant management skills? Lotus/lilies need a lot of managing as well but are well worth the effort.

Maybe try some of the bigger plants like fancy swords or crinums or apongetons.
They are very do-able, and it would be different.

Ive done lillies before but never lotus, i think that would be cool to have, and i also think Stourgyen repens would be cool also... Hmmm, decisions decisions

another idea if you want to try is setting up an emerse grow out tank =) you can sell the ones you grow too to make some extra money =D

Alright, so on my "list" ive got Melon Swords, Aponogeton, Some sort of Hygro., Tiger Lotus, and porbably some Crypt Wendti Maybey? I can always go some good ol Wisteria too, great plant, Also some stourgyen Repens. good list so far, also sort of interested in the emerse tank, what do i do with that? wet soil and keep humid?

i've only done an emerse tank to be filled later. I've never done an emerse grow tank. I've seen users using pots with some sort of soil placed in an aquarium and covered with a glass or saran wrap. Maybe look up their thread.

downoi is a very beautiful plant, maybe try that, it's a little tougher to grow from my own experience, but many has had success with it.

Alright, so i ordered some Rotala roti, Water sprite, Jungle Val and an indian red sword, as well as a tiger Lotus, Keeping my eye out for others, oh and i bought Dwarf sadg and ill see what im going to get from Acitydweller.
