What type of snail?

It looks like a small ramshorn to me. I have an unidentified species (that looks very similar to your pic) in my tank as well. They are breeding like crazy. I don't, however, see any damage to my plants as a result of their presence.

I actually think that they have eaten a fair amount of algae from my tank. I did however purchase a dwarf puffer to hopfully keep the hatchling snails in check. They were populating at a very high rate.

Personally I would get rid of them while you have the chance. I have them in my tank and my filter too. They are quite the pesky breeders. Like BiscuitSlayer said no harm done to the plants and they do eat algae and dead plants

Thats why I went the dwarf puffer route. I think that the DP is a cool little fish, and I am hoping that he will eat the baby snails and keep the population somewhat in check. I don't want to totally erradicate the snails though as I think that they are actually providing a benefit by eating some of the algae and they are cool to look at.

hmmm do you think dwarf puffers are compatiable with celestial pearl danios?

nvm just looked them up and and found out they shouldnt be housed with any fish

I read mixed data. I decided to give them a try and see how things work out. I haven't seen a bit of aggression from them yet, but you know how things can change. I figure worse case scenario I can start up a nano and move them if I see a problem. Great excuse for a new nano if you ask me (used to justify to wife).

What about loaches? My dwarf yoyo loaches keep my tank snail free.

well i decided that i will just keep the snails if it gets too bad i could either feed them to my turtles or get a dwarf puffer or puffers

I had an ugly outbreak of MTS and my horseface loach and dwarf puffer solved the problem. Only thing about the horseface is he digs up plants every now and than. As for a dwarf puffer being aggresive mine gets picked on more than he dishes out.
