So I have this bright-lime-green looking algae that is growing on my glass.. It's not growing on the plants or rocks, but mostly only on the glass. It doesn't look hairy. The algae started growing after I started fertilzing/installed my new lighting system. Its 28W over 6gal with about a 12 hr photo period.... Sorry I dont have any pics at the moment.

Anyone know what the heck this stuff is?

Green spot algae.

Nothing is supposed to want to eat it. ODing the tank on Excel is supposed to help.

physically remove if you can, and cut back you photoperiod to 8 hours.

If its not hard round spots - GSA, its probably what is referred to as green dust alge. GDA. Its normal to get and wipes of easily with a razor (on glass).

they ARE hard round spots actually - what type of algae is this?

Hard round spots = spot algae.

Even coat of green algae = green dust algae.

I have this one too in all my tanks. I use a razor about every 4 weeks to clean the glass. You can also use an old credit card. Sharpen one edge with an emory board or file.
