A 55 is a great size and shape for a high-humidity riparium with a lowered water level.

You could get an awesome collection of crypts, Anubias and other stuff gong in a tank like that. With the tank only about 1/3-full the broken top brace will be no problem.

are u running a filter?
Yes, there was a Filstar canister in that tank, but you could as easily filter it with a sponge filter & airline or submersible power filter.
hydro is right! 55s make amazing ripariums like that.

Please do that and take 10,000 photos for us to live vicariously though you.
I agree. A riparium is the best option for a 55g tank with a broken top brace.
If the brace is just broken you can try getting a piece of plexi and use nylon screws to repair the brace. If it's gone you could get a piece of glass cut to size and silicone it front to back as a new brace. That's the 2 ideas I will be using on my 30 I broke the brace on.
Drill a hole on each end of the broken brace piece that's still attached to the frame and run a large zip-tie between them. Tighten and you're done.
or you could replace the top with a 48x12 $12 dollar frame from this place?
