I started seeing this purple algae or bacteria yesterday, no idea what it is? Its on my skull in my 55 gallon ciclid tank. The tank is cycled and the water parameters are normal. Any ideas?

First thing it reminds me of is cyanobacteria commonly seen in reef tanks. If you keep your PH on the high side I guess its possible it could survive in freshwater

Its slimy, it came off with a gentle scrubbing.

Of course I licked it. It taste like sunshine.

Ya I've seen it in reef tanks before. My ph is around 7.8, not really that high. I just used phosguard for the last 4 days to remove silicates from the tank. I started seeing it after I put the phosguard in. Maybe it has something to do with that?

i had similar looking thing show up on a couple sand dollars i put in a tank... i left them in, never bothered anything.

Did it go away? My purple stuff seems to be staying in one spot. It doesn't bother me, I just wanted to know what it was.
