My nerite has been slow to move but has been moving. It's trapdoor will cloise but it tends to be slow. Now it's up against the glass and slowing moving its body back and forth. What is going on?? I only just got him like last weekend.

I have video of it moving but I'm waiting for it to fully upload to the cloud.

So it may have been too far. I put it on it's side flat on the glassoh hey! I see a mouth now! I swear it loolked like it was touching the glass! It seems to be eating or looking for food as its mouth is going. not really moving yet but definitely adhered to glass. It's moving within its shell but hasn't really done much on the glass. so far when I've seen it in the tank, it usually stays in one spot on the gravel. I know it's alive because the next day, it's moved a bit to another spot. Also, like I was saying, the trapdoor does close then the snail is picked up. This is the first I've seen it on the glass

Bump: i was considering getting just a few ghost shrimp to help the snail out but now I'm not so sure having seen the betta be nippy to the snail....

Do you have a lot of plant cover and/or ceramic tube structures for shrimp? It might work out with the betta if you have spots they can hide where the betta can't find/reach them. I can say cherry shrimp and smaller did not work well for me with a betta.

Eh, not great. the plants are still not fully established. I only have a small piece of driftwood and around the sponge filter to hide. prolly wouldn't be great. As for this snail, it's still attached to the glass but at the bottom of the tank and it stopped moving again. mouth is not going. this snail is so far the least active nerite I have. all my other snails were way more active after a few days. This has been like, a week

Another question. This is the 2nd time I've found my nerite on it's back. this morning it was happily moving along the glass and eating. I came home from work and it's on it's back with some gravel on its body preventing it from closing its trapdoor. I removed the rocks and the trapdoor closed and placed it right side up in my tank. But what gives?? It wasn't near the glass. I have a floating betta log but its not near the glass either. Could the betta have knocked it off the glass somehow??

Nerites dropping is generally a sign of poor water parameters. I have had several Nerites live for over 3 years, and excess nitrates 80ppm or so) and excess magnesium (accidentally dosed twice one time) caused all three that were in my tank to have issues with their foot and being able to be stuck to things.

I would check your water parameters and make sure they are good.

I've been keeping track of my water parameters because my tank is young (a few months). Since Sunday, my Ammonia and nitrites have been 0. my nitrates are between 5 and 10. Altho this morning they were between 0-5 so I'm getting some nitrogen to dose the tank. it's a 5 gal with only 1 nerite and 1 betta and lots of plants. Temp has been between 77-80 degrees F. pH have been around 7.2. According to my notes, the nerite was added on 3/16. I did have very mild ammonia spike after that. it got up to .25 on the 18th (I had cleaned the sponge filter the night before) and then again on the 23rd but otherwise it has been 0. When those spikes occurred, I used prime. So tank has been pretty stable and untouched. It only just started moving around the tank after like, almost a week of very little movement. I know some snails don't do great in warmer waters but I'm pretty sure this is in nerite parameters.
