Mosses can generally grow under lower lighting conditions. Of course, this is not to say that they cannot grow under high lighting with CO2, fertilizers, etc.
The moss is likely not attached directly to the substrate, but to pieces of slate and/or weighted pieces of wire/plastic mesh, etc.
