a complete one, regardless of tech level.

Most people prefer liquid test kits because they are much more accurate than test strips.

API are decent for the price but the phosphate kit color matching is not to my liking. Master kit and GH, KH all work well. (again for the price)

+1. The API test kits work reasonably well enough for their price. I find the phosphate testing kit fine, but to each their own.

If you have money to burn, Lamotte is the way to go.

I made up solutions (ala Hoppy) to calibrate the test kits and two kits in a row the color was only right for 1ppm and .25ppm. 2ppm and .5ppm were totally different from the cards. Picked up a Nutrafin PO4 kit to try when the current bottles run out and see how it will work for me.

It's strange why 0.5 ppm would be off while 0.25 ppm was correct, since 0.25 ppm would just be a 2 fold dilution of the 0.5 ppm.

If you can send it back or get your money back, do so. The colors are totally different from its card. (red cast blue vs green cast blue)

D-D Aquarium Solutions High Sensitivity Phosphate Test Kit seems like it would be a good one. Its range is from 0.43 - 0.023 (PO4). You'll have to dilute your sample for higher levels of PO4. Price: $$.$$
