What kind of vacuum do you own?

Random poll here......

Just wondering what kind of vacuums you use/own. I have always had interest in vacuums for some reason. It might just be the ability to clean stuff up quickly but I find myself "researching" stuff about vacuums. Don't judge me!:flick:

I own a cheap Vac-Master 4 gallon wet/dry vac that I use for light and medium duty cleaning such as around in my fish-room and workshop areas. For my main vacuum that I use for carpeting would be my Kirby Sentria. My parents bought the thing 4 or 5 years ago, but when we moved the entire upstairs where hardwood flooring so they let me borrow/keep it for myself in the basement. The thing is powerful! But it weighs like 15-20 pounds since it is made out of die cast aluminum. :hihi:

In 1987 I worked PT selling Filter Queen vacs. http://www.filterqueen.com/

I distributer was a total scum-bag, con-arist. His game was get you hired, have you 'work' your family & friends because of course they wanted you to be successful. He baited peopled telling them every 9 sold the 10th is yours to do as you please. the only good thing is they work and work very well. They were not cheap, $900, back then...I think with inflation that would like a million dollars today? :hihi:

I sold 20 of them got two free, sold one of free ones and kept the other. Still runs like the 1st day. They never expected anyone to sell 9 let alone 20. I found a more professional job and left.

They are built simple, are super tough, repairs are easy. I'd highly recommed getting one if you every see one for a reasonable price.

One of the really cool things is how it will filter air. If you place a new filter cone in it and run it with in a musty basement over night, in the morning all musty oder is gone and the filter cone is dirty green filled with mold spore. The filter cleans to 0.1 micron partical levels.

In all these years I've replaced the hose and I'm almost ready to replace the tank to motor gasket.

That sucks about the "shady" job. But that is cool about the air filtering capability though!
When I got married, I almost died when my wife wanted a Kirby...but we bought one and years later traded it in for a newer model....In the divorce, she got the Kirby.....I can't believe how poorly the other vacumns out there operate....I am looking for a used Kirby now because I refuse to spend more good $$$ on a cheap piece of junk.
I have a Dyson DC24 for my home. I also have a coupe of Roombas. I run the Roombas daily while I am at work...they get the pet hair up and do a decent job of keeping the floors clean. At the office I also have a Roomba that is on every day, it seems to like to trip students tho. I also have some cheapo Dirt Devil vac that was on clearance for work, I would say it sucks...but that would be giving it too much credit.
Haha, this is a super-random thread. I put other since we have central vac. I don't even know what other brand we have somewhere in a closet, we've used the central vac since we moved into this house.
Dyson DC39 Best vacuum ever IMO :)
The suction lasts even when the canister is filled to the rim.
You can put all the parts in the dishwasher, or just hose it off outside.
It fell of the hardwood stairs couple of times, nothing broken!

Nothing can compare to it... Well actually something can, but its not available in the USA (its the Bagless Samsung VCC8480)

WHAT? How can you even say that?

I have a 25 yo machine that, not only cleans it filters down to 1 micron partical levels. I doubt your plastic dyson will be around in ten years let alone 25.

Here's guy that found a Sales Demo clear tank unit, showing the cyclonic action that Dyson hypes in their commercial in a the filter Queen design that is 80 years old.

I'll give you dyson's big ball wheel is cool, but don't let cool & pretty plastic and flashy marketing fool you.

BTW - Dyson might survive a stair fall but you can through the Filter Down the stairs and it will still be running. :hihi:

Basically my vac can kick your vac's butt

Yes, but your vac still needs a filter cone :)
My dyson is not fancy, its just blue and light weight, easy to move, easy to clean, easy, well everything :) and not robust like the Queen.

But yeah, you are probably right, it won't last for 10 years.
Well actually my in laws have the upright version of the dyson and its around 12y old.

forgot to say, 5y warranty from dyson :) who does that?
I own a Eureka and it's the worst vacuum I've ever owned. The old Sharp up-right I used to have was awesome in comparison.
http://mobile.walmart.com/m/phoenix...agless-Upright-Vacuum-Gray-Blue-12B1/19485385 I have a $50 bissell from walmart it's great bag less and washable filters. I have 3 cats 2 dogs. And I also have a 3 and 5 hp ridgid shop vacs
I have the $99 Hoover from Walmart. I also have 2 cats and a Border Collie oh, and a messy husband in a rather tight space.

The vacuum is a canister, has all washable filters, and (my favorite part) the cord rewinds itself! I have used dysons and kirbys before, but this one is by far the best I have used. Most vacuums break down really quickly where I live due to the high volume of dust we get, but this is my second Hoover and no issues with it.

And last bonus: It's purple! Lol.

Always wanted to see/try one of those central vacuums. Does it have separate ports in different locations or what? I really do not know how those are used. Lololol!

Never tried a dyson but I heard they where pretty good though. I don't really like bag-less vacuums though. They seem to leak after a while, as well as when you go to empty it a ton of stuff starts to float out too, IME.
Looks like a probably missed a few brands. Just named the ones I thought would be most common. Guess I might have been a bit off.
My dad has owned a Kirby for at least 10 years and works just like it's new. Super simple machine, everything is easy to work on. Built like a tank. The only thing that sucks is changing the bag, but they may have changed it in newer ones. I would buy one but my place has hardwood floors
We recently got the big boy Dyson Dc41 animal series. So much nicer than anything ive previously used.

20 years ago a friend of mine was an industrial cleaner and had a Nilfisk GM 82 (twin motors and bagless) man that thing could suck paint off a wall. We tested it by placing a 13mm socket on the bench and it gobbled it up from 5 inches away.

Of course this is all just good fun conversation but being the consummate salesman I can't resist.

The cone's only competition is a Hepa filter and the cone beats most Hepa filter's on the market for this application. the cone is an exit filter not a bag. The container is enamel lined steel, you simply dump it and wipe with a paper towel.

These machincs aren't real vacums, they are air movers. Dirt in the path of an air mover, moves. What is most important is what comes out with the exhaust air. Fire up any machine, run it, use it. Turn off all the lights and hold a stung light source like a powerful flash light or shop hand light so the light shines were the exhaust exits. That would be along the side of a bag on an upright. Kirby guys & gals won't like this...LOL

This is were Filter Queen smokes the other brands.

We would suck-up 3/4" nuts & bolts in the demo. Of course any shop van can do that. But you can smell everything that my shop vac sucks up as the air goes out the exhaust.

They offer a 5 yr warranty also. 25 years later mine is still fine. A warranty is only as good as the company. Once they are gone what good is a warranty. Filter Queen has been around 80 year. Dyson has been around:icon_ques

On a serious note, I would recommend used FQs. If you find one for a fair price. People's big complaint is they are heavy, Well, yah, steel bucket. :hihi: If you have asthma, allergies, pets (fleas are no match for this machine) this machine will help quality of life in your home.

NateFank - FQ has a hard floor attachment. I tried our swifter after using it, didn't pick up anything I could see.

That is the same thing that happened to me with Kirby. I got the free one for selling 10 but never got paid . The vacuum works really well though.
