What is this?

I had this driftwood for 6 months now. I had java moss tied to the driftwood in the beginning. Couple months later I noticed these balls (pic on the right) growing out of the branches? What are these things?

Looks like Cladophora algae to me.

Looks like BBA to me. Clado is the algae growing in your moss above.

Clado tends to branch frequently, and BBA originates from a single point and does not branch. Squirt some peroxide directly onto the BBA and it will not bubble, squirt some onto the moss/clado and you'll see it violently bubble.
