Recently bought some ferns online. This trident java fern has some black dots on it. Not sure what it is, though I forget where I've seen it before (must have been years ago). I'm hoping someone can tell me what it is and what should be done. I tried a potassium permanganate dip for 20 minutes, but have yet to add it to my tanks as it's weird...

Reproductive organs. Perfectly normal.

Someone more clued up can elaborate.

Yep, they are pretty much baby ferns. If you let them be they will turn into baby plants. Don't try to kill them! All java fern type plants do it.

In nature they produce these little guys when they feel like their in danger. So after the little plantlets grow they become unattached then float down the stream and continue the circle of life.

Thanks! Man, still have my newbie moments. Never seen these on my other java ferns (at least I think, anyway). In it goes with everybody else...
