What is this?

This is a new tank set up and I know I have diatoms on my plants, but I just can't figure out what this string is? It comes out from a hard green thing that's sticking out and the string is coming out from it. I touched it trying to take it off and I freaked out when I felt the texture. Could anyone tell me please? Thank you in advance.

Oh that makes sense.. I didn't know what it was and I felt it while I was cleaning the leaves, but I think you're right. Thanks for letting me know!
