I am finally getting around to re-scaping my 20g long. I want to set it up for a pair of Kribs. This will be my first planted tank so I want to do it right. I have a Betta in it right now to keep the bacteria alive but he is going in my 10g after I get this tank set-up. All it has in it is two pieces of wood, two small rocks, a Dracaena sanderiana with the leaves above the water and a coconut cave. There is no substrate. The only equipmemt I have is a 40g filter and a heater. I have a air pump for it but it is not set-up right now.

What do I need to start setting it up for plants?

Well minimally you'll need some sort of substrate and lights of some sort. What you pick for the substrate is a personal choice as there are a tone of different types out there. Do a little research on here to find out the pros/cons of each and what look you are going for. You will need a light source of some type, again do a little research. There is a ton of info on here. What you choose will also depend on whether or not you plan to have CO2, whether that is pressurized or DIY, the type of plants you choose, how heavily planted you want the tank to be, if you decide to use fertilizers.
