What could I Do?

I just got a .5 gallon glass box and I'm thinking of what would survive in it. It will be super low tech. I'm thinking java moss will be the only thing to survive. The water temp will be around 70. and ill get a small desk lamp to go over it. All suggestions would be great.

I had the same exact "glass box" at one point. Unfortunately I cracked it during a water change.
I had a tiny piece of manzanita with anubias nana petite attached, and a betta.
Looked great. I didn't even use a light. I just put it on the windowsill.
no betta in a 1/2 gallon 0_0
It can survive and the tank can be a "holding" tank for the betta for times when youre moving it from one tank to another or remaking its own tank, but this is simply too small for a betta or any fish. Also a lid is necessary to keep livestock in.

java moss is interesting. desk lamp can actually = a 14-15 watt CFL 6500K bulb which will make the thing very high light. you can grow just about anything that's small enough to fit with the right care. for inhabitants try one snail or something...
no betta please. but java moss, and some anubias with a ghost shrimp can work.
Yea, I'd like to have a small school (3 to 5) of tiny fish, and a snail. Any more Suggestions?
Cladophora (like Marimo Balls and such) and some snails or 2 Shrimp would do great.
I don't think there are any fish that could live in there, half of a gallon is really small.
Maybe these:

Please no fish. Just because a fish could survive in a small container doesn't make it humane.
Just about every fish comes from an environment where its natural body of water it swims in is at least 55 gallons. Many fish are frequently found in smaller bodies of water but that doesn't mean they prefer it or thrive in these conditions. Anything smaller than 2 gallons is too small in my opinion, its just not right.
A small school of 3-5 fish is just deplorable and appalling. Come on.. just because a fish is small doesn't mean its okay with swimming 3 inches before it slams into the glass. Fish get fatty liver and obesity just like lazy humans do.
How about a Jack Dempsey... That will work right. There is 6 inches of space before they will run into the glass and go brain dead. Geeze... The Spca is giving it to me up there. You could look at it this way. If i don't buy the fish a 4 year old will have mommy buy it. Take it home and it will be dead in 3 days so whats a better life. Small box for a long time or small tank for 4 days?

Not entirely true.... Every tank I have ever kept was open topped and I never had anything climb or jump.

Small tank for 4 days.
If I lived in that little glass box I'd wanna be put out of my misery.

then youve been getting very lucky for however many years youve kept them.

I too keep all of my tanks without "lids". It isn't just luck. If you don't fill to the very rim, most fish won't jump out other than highly prone jumpers.
+1 to the whole no lid thing. I have one tank with a lid the rest dont and not one has jumped out. Just look around in some other threads. there have been some cool little planted tanks with small pieces of drift wood or rock scapes.
I'm gonna hold of on using this tank for a bit. I just got my gumball machine tank siliconed together, so i'm gonna focus on that, but its about the same size, Aprox .6 gallons. Still figuring out how to stock it so feel free to comment on this thread.

I'm just saying dont put a fish into a small lidless tank and expect it to stay in there for a long time. this is rimless so filling to the rim is easily the best aesthetic choice.

the gumball idea, that sounds fun =)
