Clay that you can buy will probably be from a potters supply place. You would want something high in iron, but pure clay - no plastics, elastomers, resins, etc. added. When I looked one time I didn't find anything I thought was suitable. Some places in California have good clay a foot or so down in the ground, but of course you need to live where you can dig without someone arresting you too!

You could also just buy the smallest package of laterite and use that.

Oh good... I can find laterite.... Though there is one small mom n pop artist supply store I think I'll tyr first...
