if you mean flat panel TVs. then the usual Sony, Samsung and Panasonic comes to mind.
Samsung and Sony makes great LCD (LED if you want to pay the premium) and panasonic makes good Plasma TVs. 3D tvs not worth it

if you want one in your room i would go with something like a 32inch. also if you have HDMI on your computer you can connect through that as well
i love my LED Samsung, it makes gaming that much more fun!
Vizio is a great brand for the money, Samsung makes some great Tvs as well as Sony.
I had a 37" Vizio and had some problems with it.
I had it replaced under warranty and paid the 90something dollar difference and got a 42" Panasonic.
Love the Panasonic ive got now.

Insane story about the Vizio and Sears.
Lets just say... Sears rocks! LOL
yes i'm talk about a flat panel tv. the ones that look real slim, yes I want to put it in the bed room. I want one that is big but not to big. one that i can enjoy watching movies on, but small enough that I could also use it as a computer moniter with out it feeling like i'm at the movies... I saw sony 19's at wallmart for around 150 but they seemed to small.
i saw some 26's around 300.00 then some 32's for around 350.00 target did have some 32 inches for 300.00

I guess my next question would be. what's the differents in lcd,led,plasma etc. 720p 7201 1080i 1080p

Led tvs are just lcds with different type of backlighting. I wouldnt get any flat screen that wasnt 1080p
32in would be the perfect size for a bedroom and its a good size if you want to double it up as a computer monitor.

the holidays are coming up, so there should be plenty of good deals on TVs
I have a toshiba 40" lcd, works amazingly well, but sadly I don't use it much for tv lol, its my computer monitor.

Honestly most tvs have great picture, just not out of box, mine out of box the picture was pretty mediocre, but after I calibrated it, the picture was just incredible.

Also don't worry too much about 1080p/720p especially if you get a tv under 40 inch, picture difference is minimal.

Plus you should factor in the viewing distance from the set. (For example for a 1080p 40" set the ideal viewing distance is 5-7 feet).
Don't forget the Hz. Try to stay in the 120 range. This is for fast action scenes and refresh rates
Www.cnet.com is the place to research flat screens. You can search for best tv's in your price range, narrow it down by what you intend to do with it, etc. I have a panasonic 42"plasma and love it. Definitely check out sears, they price match, and have good selection. Each kind of technology has it's strong points, but if you are staying under 42" you can scratch plasma off the list. Unless things have changed recently, that's the smallest plasma available. True 1080p is great for gaming, or blu ray, however not necessary for broadcast tv as it's all 720p or 1080i. Before and after the holiday is prime time to make a purchase, and if you're willing to brave black friday (I won't) you can score big time.

x2 on all this...and if you can wait till around the holidays, its supposed to be the cheapest these types of tv's have ever been...and there are supposed to be some significant sales.

Also dont worry about 1080p unless you are gaming or blue ray or are getting a huge tv...720p fits most peoples needs.
1080P and blue ray is... incredible. It's sort of too good, because people don't look as good because you can see their pores and super fine lines on their face. It's a lot more realistic. If you have a playstation 3 or blu-ray player do yourself a favor and go 1080P.

I have a 42" 1080P Vizio. Saved up all summer to get it. Naturally, six months later they come out with TV's that get wifi connectivity... sucks for me.

I used to think Vizio was the wal-mart brand, but it's actually just another brand that sort of came out of no where and is a real brand name. Vizio gives you the best bang for your buck in my opinion. Mine was like $650 after tax and you can probably get it for under $500 now since it's a year old, or get an even better one for the same price.

LED TV's are super skinny but expensive.
I'm very happy with my lg but the led samsungs are real nice probaby will be my next tv
After seeing the Sharp Quattron in person last week, I'd say get that one. The commercials are right you have to see this television.
Vizio is not a walmart brand, it is from Irvine, California. but they were (are) considered second tier because they didnt make their own panels, they were using old panels from another maker like sony and so on. idk if they make their panels now, but they are good TVs
rule of thumb - the human eye will generally not be able to pick up on the difference between a 720 and 1080 unless you're viewing from less than 1.5 times the diagonal. So, for example, if you're watching a 1080p 37" tv from more than 4 1/2 feet away, it will look exactly the same as a 720p. this means that unless your flatscreen is huge, or you're using it as a pc monitor, 1080p is probably overkill.

however, there is a huge difference in quality between brands. samsung and sony have amazing picture quality, and each company, in addition, generally has at least 2 tiers of quality. given a choice, i would pick a 720p samsung over a 1080p vizio of the same size.
From my experience, samsung and sony are top brands for lcds, panasonic for plasmas.
I have an LG 47inch 1080p 240hz, it is freaking awesome. If you like action movies/sports, what not, you should get 120 or 240hz so movements and stuff are a lot smoother.

I would also try to get an LCD tv since they use a lot less power than a plasma
Samsung LCD were leading the pack at least a year ago on LCD TVs based on Consumer Reports. I went with one step down to a Sharp based on those reports. At the time it was worth the 400 dollar difference. If you are buying now then I see no reason to buy lower then 120Hz or 40". Most brands will be lower then a $1000. Plus you never know what deals Black Friday will be giving next month. Good luck.
