A buddy of mine in college doesnt have a planted tank (what a shame) but he came to me asking about this algae. Anyone know what it is and how to treat it? I think its just plain brown algae but not sure.

hard to tell from the photo but it does look like common brown algae.

If it is all plastic plants, a spin in the dishwasher on glass setting, then rinse with tap water and replace. Wipe the glass and cut down on hours of lighting. Rinse and repeat as necessary.
