Weird Moss ID needed!

O.k so i visited a pet store while i was on vacation to check out there stock and look for a couple fish for my new scape. They had everything! including red tail zebra sand loaches:bounce: They were sort of pricy and i didn't want to risk them dying on the 8 hour road trip home. So i bought 3 kuhli loaches and an oto. They people there really new what they were talking about and set me up to get my fish home alive. I asked for some java moss because i havn't found it anywhere in my area and they guy gave it to me for free:icon_mrgr long story short I don't think it isjava moss after reseaching it online, so can anyone ID this moss?

Heres a pic

thanks!

EDIT: BTW its growing on a rock;)

LOL i thought the same thing, but would a fish store dare sell algea for 5 bucks?

never the less, i still really like it, it moves so nice in the water current.

Anyone else have a clue as to what this might be?
yeah, kinda looks like an algea, maybe get some closer/clearer pics? of the strands....
I'll try to get some close ups but my tank is just getting over a blackout and there are still small floating particles in the water.
that's an algae. i usually get those on rocks inside my outdoor tank / bucket. a fellow in some other forum have this attached to his driftwood in his natural lighted tank, so i guess it grows on sun/strong light. he kept it that way and somehow the tank is beautiful. nothing harmful according to his information.
Cool, I pity anyone that buys it thinking its java moss lol But...In the pets store aquarium it was grown in very low light...But thats my best bet so far. Do you know what king of algea it is? Or how to propigate it?

Thanks

see this tank, credit for photos goes to the owner from another forums.

close up

correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure that's the same algae. for your information, the tank is lit by sunlight only. no information on how to tie them on the driftwood and how to propagate.

Cool, I like it. Thanks for the ID Ikuzo, I wonder if shrimp would eat the stuff. Now to figure out how to propigate it... I have already tied it down to a few stones, maybe I would have better luck with some wood though.

I was wondering about the same stuff last night, go figure.
Mrbman- How did you aquire the stuff? and any tips on how to propagate it?
Looks pretty good on that driftwood. :icon_smil

actually I got it as a hitchhiker off of a plant shipment. Treat it like you would moss and see if that works for propigation :icon_ques
it looks like a marimo ball gone wild to me.
I had some of this stuff in a current and it turned into a ball shape as it was "blown" back and forth. Maybe you're on to something?? after all, aren't marimo balls made on the shores of lakes by the wave action?

Yes, that keeps them round. And actually a Marimo ball is the algae Cladophora . The Algae everyone hates is actually a great plant to use as long as you can control it. Keeping your levels balanced and not overdosing should keep the algae from spreading everywhere else. But who knew you could attach a Marimo ball to wood or rocks, if that is a Marimo ball!?!?!?!
i only came to that conclusion because I have a marimo ball attached to a rock. Has the same look, just doesn't have the leeping hair that the one pictured has. I just made good cuts on it and attached to a rock with a hair net.
See that was my first impression when I seen it was a marimo ball in need of a hair cut. That is exactly have my non rounded marimo ball looked like.
marimo balls... never had one so i wonder if that's really the one. what's the scientific name?
