Hello. Does anyone know what this may be? Algae, plant spores? Thanks for any assistance/advice.

Looks like staghorn algea.Staghorn algae (Compsopogon sp.) belong to the group of red algae. They are easy to diagnose as their growth habit looks a bit like the horns of a stag deer. They show different shades of grey. If you immerse a piece in alcohol it will turn a red color. Use some hydrogen peroxide in a syringe and shoot some at the staghorn with the filters off. Should die after that.

Wow. Thank you so much for the helpful information. I will give the H2O2 in syringe a try.
