Water Change Equipment?
Can anyone recommend a method for large water changes not close to the sink and RO unit? Do they sell barrels on wheels at the big box stores? How do you get the water into the tank if the RO water is below it?
The best spot in the house as far temperature and weight support is the least convenient for water changes!

I usually just use a bucket and tube to syfoon water out. Then carry it to the bathroom. Then Carry jugs of water back to the tank! Very annoying.

get a water barrel for holding your RO water, then drain the tank and put a submersible pump in the water barrel with tubing going to the tank. Turn on pump and voila! tank filled.

I've heard of people acquiring 55 gallon plastic drums for free or near free courtesy of pepsi or coke bottling plants. Apparently they're used for transporting syrup. That being said, I called every place in town and couldn't get my hands on one.
I'd suggest a Rubbermaid Brute Container available at any home depot or lowes for ~$40. The cheaper, plastic cans will leech whereas the brute is considered "food grade" by the USDA.
Hook up a float valve, a pump, and off you go. I had a Mag 7 pump (hooked to a standard garden hose) and used a cheap X10 remote controller to switch it on and off as I was filling ~30 feet away from the container.

Some of us mix tap water with RO water to lower the KH and GH, but most don't. Those of us who use RO water exclusively have to reconstitute it to get an adequate amount of calcium and magnesium in the water.

Thank you for pointing that out Hoppy! I've been in the habit of using RO water so as not to clog misting nozzles or leave calcium deposits on the glass of my terrariums. This game has much different rules to consider!

Siphon to a dipper and then pour water from dipper to the bucket. Then after I'm done, I either spill it to the drain or rather water garden plants.:biggrin: Then get tapwater and lift the bucket to the location where my aquarium is. Then get water from the bucket using the dipper and back to the aquarium.:smile: It hurts my back if you ask me.:help:
I think I should be getting an electric gravel vacuum rather than doing it manually.:biggrin:
So how far are you from the sink? I use a python siphon (www.pythonproducts.com/). You can add extentions if you need to. Works great. I can change 50% of my 20 gallon in 15 minutes including adding ferts. Check it out.

Not from the sink. The faucet is 2-3 feet from the floor.:hihi: A sink will make me faint. I needed 2 10-gallons pails to carry out my daily water change.So how far are you from the sink?
