Walstad Tank with MTS?

I had been planning on setting up a new Walstad tank for shrimp but can no longer find Miracle Gro Organic Potting Mix locally. Can I use mineralized topsoil instead? Will this provide enough co2 for the plants? Or is it a completely different method?

Mineralized Top soil is perfectly fine though soil doesn't provide co2...
