Vintage 2.5 gal. Nano from Waay Back

I bought this neat little "splatter paint" tank off e-bay a few weeks ago and just set it up this week. This tank dates from around the 1930's and I really like its "bulb edge" glass. To get a tank from this era with all its original glass and original tar sealant that doesn't leak is pretty rare. There are some rust spots but that's to be expected from a tank so old.
I had sieu004 custom make the acrylic pipes to go with this tank and my Eheim 2211. I think he did a nice job.
I ran about 30' of CO2 line from my 25 gal. cube so the two tanks are sharing a RedSea paintball system.
This nano sits on a Victorian marble top table next to my c1910 walnut terrarium, both of which are under a 250W compact fluorescent light.
I'm using a GLA glass bubble counter and nano diffuser, a Catalina 50W titanium heater (which is the smallest adjustable heater I can find), and a Cal Aqua nano drop checker. You can tell I just started CO2 a few hours ago because the solution in the checker is still blue.
I'm using CaribSea's "Super Naturals" "Sunset Gold" sand substrate with "Total" fertilizer tablets from AquariumPlants.com inserted into it along with fertilizing the water column with dry ferts from GLA.
Current flora are: Pogostemon helferi aka downoi, and Riccardia chamedryfolia aka mini pellia. Current fauna are: 5 Endler's and 1 Otocinclus. I'd like to have a piece of Malaysian or Mopani driftwood in the center with some Fissidens fontanus and mini pellia growing on it but I haven't been able to find an interesting piece yet that's small enough. The 2211 was taken from a tank that I decided to shut down so it' already filled with bacteria from the previously cycled tank.
I was also considering planting an Eriocualon sp. matto grosso by itself in the center of the tank.
I really like Seiryu stones too but don't like the fact that they raise pH and hardness.
So this is the start of my second vintage nano (my first one broke when I was cleaning it). Hopefully this one will do better, it should as its glass is much thicker. This type of glass was the scrap end pieces of "float glass" and was used in some aquariums and shelves back in the 30's up until the 50's. Too bad it's unavailable now because I really like the way it looks. Pencil edge glass is similar but doesn't have the extra thickness at the end like this vintage type.

Very nice I've been looking for somthing like that for a vintage bathroom I'm working on.
Is the bottom slate? I really like how the tubes blend in with tank they look like they're part of it.
Thanks, that's the look I was going for with the acrylic and clear vinyl tubes. It actually has a glass bottom which is unusual for that time period.

That would match my kitchen counter minus the rice cooker.

Tank looks good. Didn't know they made rimeless tanks back then. All the vintage tanks I've seen online and in garage sales have a metal trim on every corver and sides. It's like early 30's ada style.
Ha, ha I like that! Never thought about it before but I guess it is a retro ADA style. Maybe Takashi got the idea for his tanks from a vintage tank like this one!
They didn't make very many of these "rimless" types. They're really hard to find, especially with all the original bulb edge glass. There was a really nice Jewel "art deco" 10gal. from the 30's on ebay just a few days ago but it only had one piece of the original glass in it, the rest had been replaced with regular glass which just ruins the look for me. I'd love to get a 5 or 10 gal. Jewel art deco with all its original glass.

Wow that is really cool. I hope to keep collecting vintage tanks. I have a start with seven Metaframes already and I's love to find some more unusual stuff like this tank of yours too.
Thanks. My first vintage nano was a 2.5 gal. Metaframe. I was patting the glass on one of its sides to get some eco complete off and it broke. I wasn't even using much force. I guess the glass thickness in their smaller tanks was minimal.

I love that tank. Almost a bit of a steampunk flavor.
Thank you. Now that you mention it, yes it does look a bit steampunk, ha, ha. If you look closely at my signature photo there's a steampunk keyboard at my computer desk.
