I have a RO water filter. I know you shouldn't use RO water for a planted tank. Could I remove the RO filter cartridge and just use the sediment and carbon cartridges?

The sediment filter removes rust, dirt, silt etc. The carbon filter removes chlorine. What I would do is run it without the RO filter and check the gH/kH/TDS etc. on the water to see if it would work in your tank.

You can use RO fine, but you have to add back the minerals first.

Use remineralizer like seachem equilibrium to bring it back to desired state.

Been using RO water for three years in plant tanks. I use about 20% hard water to keep KH & GH in check. My water is off the scale for hardness so for me it works pretty good.
