I am looking to upgrade from 2X24 t5ho to 4X24. I am looking at the wavepoint 24" system.

are there any others that are comparable at $200 or less?
I am not looking to get metal halide lighting.

You'll have roughly $275/$300 wrapped up in that fixture by the time
you replace the bulbs with the correct ones.
Here is what Catalina has: http://www.catalinaaquarium.com/product_info.php?cPath=71_136&products_id=1411 I'm not sure what is available for less than $200.

What will the upgraded light be used for?
I have actually turned in favor of the nova 24" system.

Free shipping and two plugs so I can do sunrise/sunset + fan. looks pretty good.

I haven't been getting results with hair grass that I would like and yeah I'll end up swapping out the blue bulbs, so an extra $48.

actually seems like a lot of people have complained about the fan being too noisy.
look at AH supply if you can retro fit.

Then swap the fan out with something else...?

like what? I would have no idea how to take it out but I'll ask anyways.
Ive never owned one of those fixtures but it should be possible to dismantle
the fixture, un-bolt the fan and replace it with another fan of the same size.

Looking at the picture of the fixture, looks like 5 screw to remove the end
cap off of the fixture housing to get to the fan.
Probably another 4 screws holding the fan down.
Your hairgrass problem is more likely to be a low CO2 problem, than a low light problem. A four bulb T5HO fixture is a lot of light for almost any imaginable 2 foot long tank.

nah my co2 is centered, 3-4bps come on an hour before lights come on and cut off an hour before they die. 4dkh drop checker that is as green as you can get without being yellow. the hairgrass grows just not as fast as I want it to.
seems like every tank I have ever liked has had at least 3wpg.
