I know the ugf is not the best option for a planted aquarium but i was thinking that the water movement coud be helpfull to the plant roots. Now i had an idea to protect the plate from getting tangled with roots, place your ugf plate then a layer of fine pea gravel just enough to cover the plate after that add a piece of stainless steel screen with very very fine mesh then on top of that add your main substrate (eco complete,ect.).Perhaps a pre filter sponge to keep large waste out from under the plates.this is just an idea i had i didnt really think it out or any thing like that it came to me when i saw stainless steel screening at home depot.one more idea i could power the ugf with my xp3!!
