Undecided on Finnex lighting options

Hello all, I have been reading a fair bit about Finnex lights, but the more I read about them I become more undecided on the varient to choose.
My tank is 23g (50 x 60 x 35cm) with EI feet dosing and pressurised co2. I would like to grow a HC carpet and some other plants like rotalia.

The two Finnex lights I'm thinking of are the planted + 24" or the Ray 2 24". What would you suggest out of these two light units?

Thanks!

I had a Ray 2, I upgraded to BMLs a week ago. It really washed out colors, but it is more powerful than the Planted +. I would say the Planted +, it should give plenty of light on that size

Thanks for the reply, I was looking at those light by bml, but don't really want to spend that much just yet. What about the planted + 24 7, would this be classed as a medium - high light for growing HC?
I agree with the Planted+ With that height, it should provide plenty of light. The red LEDs really do seem to help.

Thanks for the input also, do you think the 24 7 version would be the better choice between the planted +?

No. I have a 24/7, and never use it in 24/7 mode anymore - too much light at nighttime and lead to algae growth.

then again, I might have been dialing in the co2 wrong. so many variables when it comes to algae

Yeah I wasn't going to use the acutal 24/7 mode, but have it max on a timer. It was because the design of the light will fit my tank deisng abit more.

Yeah algae will most likely be a pain at the start, but will just need to find that balance.

planted+ packs a good amount of light power. I ran short light periods for a while until the plants beefed up.

the 24/7 has fancy features like changing light colors and dimming. I think planted+ packs more firepower.

I thought the 24/7 had a bit more PAR than the planted +. You do not have to use the 24/7 mode on the planted+ 24/7. You can create your own custom color, use MAX, etc. and have it connected to a timer.

The planted + 24/7 is a bit more powerful, but the 24/7 mode leads to algae. Its sad that BML no longer makes aquarium fixtures. And they are quite expensive, but I got lucky on Craigslist and got $560 of lights for $200

I think the 24/7 is what ill go with, and just run it on a timer and minimize the algae hopefully. Yeah that sucks. You got real lucky! Enjoy :D
I read here somewhere that in 24/7 mode, the light defaults to 6 AM when it comes on.I have one on a 55 in 24/7 mode,no co2,on a timer that shuts off at midnight and comes on at 6 AM,no algae issue at all.

I think skipping the blue leds at night doesn't provide the light spectrum the algaes want.
I've been running in 24/7 mode over a 20 long for 6 months with no algae issues. I do inject CO2 to 15ppm during the day, but that gasses off within an hour.

I had a ray 2 on an old tank. It was great for growth, but without a dimmer it really demanded high CO2 and very regular fertilizing. One thing I will note with the Finnex form factor is that the spread front to back is not that great. Even with a fairly narrow tank (which you have), the top of the tank at the front and back will not get light. This really only matters for tall background plants though.

I am just setting up a new tank. I was looking into the planted + 24/7, but was disappointed with the inability to change the programming. I ended up getting a MakeMyLED freshwater panel. Fully programmable (though no gimmicky storm modes). I was happy with the spec on their default freshwater, but they will customize the LED load out. IMO the colour rendition is very good. I am running a program that maxes at 25% output on any given channel (save the blue channel).

Sorry if this complicates your decision making, but I started out at the same place (ray 2 or planted +) as you, and this is where I ended up.
